The game that i would like to try out is a top down shooter, so im going to try find some nice pictures that will give me somthing to think about,

I want to make my game Sci-Fi i think but this is just me thinking about it at the moment.

Even the more basic looking games can give out some good game play

I want my game to look retro as well to make it easy for me to do the art for the game and it would look nice for people who liked the 8-bit era

Space invaders is not really a top down shooter but it was still a great game and I look like to give my game that feel of space invaders.

I love seeing Da Vinci's work in 8-bit most people might not like it but i love it

There are so many spaceship designs that anyone can make one feel life-like even if it look strange to many others. Like that picture just then.

Maybe later down the line I could have each level as a planet?

Maybe I could have "power-ups" in the game? this is much later down the line, im just thinking about this kinda thing at the moment

I will not be using real guns within my game, the only guns you will see is the one firing from the spaceships

I like the looks of these "power-ups" there are simple and easy to understand no matter who you are and how use to these symbols you are.

A "bullet hell" game just means a game where trying to evade COUNTLESS bullets while trying to get ahead in the game, i dont want to make one of these because of how hard these games are, I do like hard games but more "fair"hard games. Reminds me more of a light show then a game to be honest but this is good for my resceach.

You can kinda call the game i would like to make a "on rails shooter" as well because of the fact that your are always going up one path.

I feel like that I have done some good reasceach so what im going to do for the last 15-10 mins is start making a 8-bit space-ship. I might carry this over to next week as well.

I will have to do more with the flames at some point.


For this week Ill be making designs for units (Ally Or Foe)

Unit 4

Letter Patten Work

These are my letter patten work using Illustrator. What I did is used a letter and made a patten to it like the D, I repeatedly added a D next to an other D until I made a square then copy and pasted two more times in each other. What I like about this work is the pattens of most of them to make them look like flowers and houses. If I had to improve my work I would add a few more in that you can see the letter more then the patten that I made with the letter.

This is my research into words with there own meanings in its design. I for one really like these words, they are well designed and really show the meaning just by the placement alone.

This is my ideas sheet for the expressive words sheet made by pencil, these are a few ideas for the words that we have to make. The words that I have chosen are not really ones that I feel like I can do much with but it is the least of the evils.

This word was made by using the Baskerville font. Then using a special characters for the O to make it look like eyebrows, then using the full stop to make the dots within the eyes. Then I warped it using the "wave" effect. I think this was the best idea for the word because it the O's look like eyes and the warp makes it look like its been spooked.

This word was made by using the Helvetica font. I had a few problems making this one because it was really hard to come up with ideas for this word, so I one of the first things that comes to mind which is to make the word look some kind of monster to fit the words meaning. After making a few spelling mistakes with the word and changing it so it is spelt right, I came up with this image. I picked this idea because this was the most readable and the most twisted at the same time to give the effect.

This word was made up by using the Garamond font. I made the O pretty big and then put the other letters around the O to make it look like the Electrons of the atoms, made them smaller. I picked this one as my best idea because it felt the most original.

I picked this one as my best because of how much this shows the word gluttony with only using the word itself.

This word is made up by using the Century. I started to balance them like a stack to make it seem like it is balancing upon itself. I choose this as my best because out of all my other ideas I feel like this one give the feeling of balance the best.

This is my mood board for the typefaces design. This was made by images from the internet that I like about this topic. What I like about this is the range of colours that some of these have which gives my mood-board a nice touch. What I don't like about the work is the placement of some the words in the work.

These are all my ideas for my typeface design this is all made by the use of pencil. What I like about this work is the range of ideas that I have made specially at the start I had no ideas what so ever. What I could do to improve this work is to make the squares the right sizes to make my work a bit more polished.

This is my first of the two for "A thousand miles begins with a single step" This was made using illustrator, I place the number one thousand in each corner to make it look like a frame of a picture to give the feeling of the rest of the words are in a picture.

This is my first of the two for "gotta go fast" This was made using illustrator. I made this look like a path that some one is running though and the colour blue in my opinion is the colour of swiftness.

This is my first of the two for "Love will hurt" This was made using illustrator, I was making this look like that love was hurt and lead down and the word "will" is scared of the word hurt and that is why I made the word hurt look big and scary.

This is my second of the two for "Love will hurt" This was made using illustrator. The word love have chopped some of the W for "will" so it looks like that love is hurting something.

This one is a change to my second one for "Love will hurt" I used a pencil and paper to draw the letters in then used illustrator to edited the work. The change I have made is the word "hurt" is under the other words to make it look like it has watched what happend and the shaking is making the word look like its scared.

This is my final design for the visual recipe. I have made this using illustrator. What I like about this work is that I still have made this understandable to other people with as little words as possible. If I had to improve my work more, I would change the look of some of the objects like the milk bottle and the bacon to look more like them.

visually appealing concept

This is a film festival poster in LA. I have picked this poster because of the colours and tone with the giant film wheel being a major eye catcher. I like the use of the hot reds and browns to catch the eye, it connects to the fact that the film wheel is in fact the same colours as this poster, so these colours have not just been picked for no reason. The only thing that I disliked about this work is that this was not in full screen and I would of removed the white bar on the outside.

This is a Arts festival poster in Portland. I have picked this poster because I liked the pop art like colours and the comic book like style they have gone for. The use of opposite colours to create this clash of flat colours makes it look very energetic. The hand is very comic book like and I would say  looks a lot like a hand that the artists of Gorillaz would make. The only thing that I don't like about this work is that there is too many speech bubbles on the poster which kind of gets in the way of the art.

This is a music festival poster from 2010. I have picked this poster because I love all the artists names being a part of a tree, this mean that this festival could of been for green-peace or some other  environmental causes.I really like the use of soft colours that match the mood of most of the artists work. (The artists that I know of of-course.) The tree itself looks very elegant and soft to match the clam mood of this poster and it works really well. My only problem with this work is that some of the artists names cant really be read well.

This is a festival poster for J-pop music.I have picked this poster because of all the flat coloured, cute characters that are in this work. The use of the flat colours really does help the whole cuteness thing that this poster is doing. Each of the small characters do feel quite different from one and another due to the different use of colour per each one. The thing I do not like about this poster however is that 1/3 of the poster at the bottom, just get rid of that and add more of that colourful art to the poster and it would look much better.

This is a music festival poster. I have picked this poster because I like the use of the hot colours being used for a volcano. This use of hot colours are quite eye catching and fits nicely to the "get all fired up" words that are in them to get people wanting to see this. The volcano itself is not very interesting to look at but the lava is almost in a tattoo like shape to give it a lot more interest and favor. The title itself is not very interesting and thats really my only problem with it,the whole thing is not really interesting.

This is a music festival poster. I have picked this one because of the guitar/pop art design being very appealing to me. The use of blues and oranges does give a nice summer feel of water and sun and I do like the simpleness as well just having these two colours and not much else they are complementary colours and it works well. The blend of guitar and ice-pop works for this poster because of the summer theme, taking two things that would be associated with summer. I really like this picture and I can't really say what I don't like.

This is a European arts festival poster. I have picked this one because of the interesting typeface design on this poster. The typeface itself is not really that interesting itself its just a plain black all caps letters. What Is interesting however is the stuff on and around the letters themself  with stuff like fancy  clothing, a big building and a piano which all licks to a party environment. What I would improve with this work is to have more of these letters have the same treatment.

This is a arts festival poster made in Ireland. I have picked this one because of the range of typefaces that's being presented on this poster. There are a huge range of typefaces to quite normal to elegant circus like. The colours of the words are quite varied with nice hot colours. I think that this poster is too busy and that is a downfall because there is too much going on and it makes it hard to read most the words.

This is a arts festival poster. I have picked this one because of the more random aspect of the typography and the complementary colours stand out to me. The typeface itself is quite varied and the two colours are purposely very different from each other. The colours being complementary works in its favour because there is nothing else to look at and there for does not look like there is too much on the poster. In my opinion the only down fall here is the rest of the typeface being boring compared to the main title.

This is a arts festival poster made in America. I have picked this one because of the way the typeface is has been made for this poster. The typeface itself is quite boring and there is not much to talk about but the thing way that the typeface is presented is very interesting in that it has been made on cloth which makes it feel more like a arts movement. The thing I don't like is the over use of blue because it can feel a bit depressing of all the cold colours.

This is a music festival poster from Hong Kong. I have picked this one because of the interesting way that the typeface has been used for more than just the typeface itself. For example the words looks a lot like buildings and the use of adding people to it as well. The poster itself only has two colours of orange and black but it works well for this poster because putting too many colours would take away the focus of the poster. The thing I don't like is the choice of using orange because it more of a dangerous colour than something more calming like blue or green.

This is a fire festival poster in Scotland. I have picked this poster because of the interesting imagery and typeface used in this poster. The typeface looks sort of medieval like with the flicks that has been used on some of the letters. The use of orange for the typeface works because of trying to keep the poster looking like fire. I think that this poster works really well and would not change a thing about this poster.

Similar concept posters

This is a video games festival poster. I have picked this poster because of the use of the space invaders enemy within the poster.  The use of typeface in the title suites classic video games because of the classic green and the lines to make it look more onscreen looking.  The only thing I don't like about this is that to feel to crowded.

This is a very retro games festival poster. I have picked this poster because of the use of retro imagery to convey the message of the poster itself. The use of typeface fits the poster because of the use of anything pixels and retro stuff. The images themselves are nicely done and easy to tell what they are and I do like the touch of using PONG in the background. I really do like this poster and cant really think of a problem that this poster does.

This is a film festival poster, not a games one but the used character that is Donkey Kong, lower right is a games one and therefor relates to games. I have picked this poster for the use of using Donkey Kong using film tapes and not barrels. The typeface of this poster is not much to write home around, it does its job by making it easy to read. The image of Donkey Kong is very nicely done and feels quite saul bass like. The porblem I have with this is that they have used Donkey Kong, a game character, with a films poster, it feels like they are trying to appeal to a wrong audience, it would of looked a lot closer to the topic if it was just King Kong.

This is a games festival poster. I have picked this poster because of the use of the game pad to this poster. The typeface of the poster itself is quite simple and easy to read. The image of the pad is also simple with no brand ties which makes it more of a all gamers allowed thing. The thing I don't like about this is there is no fun or interesting typeface with in this poster making it kinda dull and plain.

This is a games festival poster. I have picked this poster because of the cute looking pixel star. The typeface itself is all normal and don't have much to it. It image of the star is all nicely pixelated with even some personality to it with the way its looking at the name of the festival. The thing I don't like about this poster is the simple use of typeface with only a small amount of other texts.

The typeface itself has some interest with the crumbled letters and some colours to it. The over use of just about everything with games seems to be confusing and might make people question what it even is. The thing I dont like about this poster is that there is too much on this poster, if they stuck to two things and only had that then it would be a better poster.
